OUR HISTORY
Home Energy Consultants, Inc. was formed in 2006 by Ron and Ruth Samuelson. Ron has a diverse background in home repair, home building and renovation. Ruth has a background in architecture.
Home Energy Consultants is an independent, third-party company trained and certified in the practice of building science. HEC knows how a building breathes and uses that knowledge every day toward making buildings healthier, more comfortable and energy efficient.
Since its start-up, Home Energy Consultants has helped hundreds of households and small businesses reduce their energy costs.
How we came to be
In the 1970's shortly after the national energy shortage and long lines at the gas pumps, Ron and Ruth became interested in alternative energy; primarily solar thermal. They started a small, successful business installing solar panels for heating and domestic hot water. When government tax credits ended so too did their solar business in the early 1980's. Since then, Ruth went to work for an architectural firm in Poughkeepsie and Ron, after working as a field specialist for a boiler manufacturing company, graduated from Vassar College and took up teaching.
Today
Since 2006, Home Energy Consultants has been five times recognized by NYSERDA as an outstanding contractor in their EmPowerNYsm program providing energy-saving services to low-income households.
